Description
Our TAC-161U2-R is designed to replace the passenger side, upper rear shock mount for the 2wd Tacoma. The shock mount is made from heavy duty 7ga steel and comes complete with an attached 5/8” shock mount stud, nut and washer. The kit has 2 locating tabs, which rest on top of the frame rail. The ‘L’ shaped backer plate fits in the corner where the back side of the rear fuel tank cross member meets inside of the frame rail. This puts the shock mount stud in perfect position.
You will not need to remove the bed to install this repair kit.
This fits all 1996-2004 2wd Tacoma models.

Fit perfect however when it arrived the instruction said it had to be welded in place ….I had a cheap flux welder so I managed ok. But since I’m not confident in my welding abilities to be sure I drilled a 1/2 inch hole threw the side of the shock mount plate right threw the frame and used a 3 and 1/2 bolt to secure it for extra measure. Used a carbide bit and it went through the steel easy enough. Taking the rear wheel off made it easy to access the top of the new mount, the bottom was easy enough to get to but the angle where it fits into the cross member was tight. I’m not a mechanic but I’m pretty handy the job took me about 2 hours, probably should have taken about 30 minutes, all in all good product.

Had excellent fitment, mounted right up and welded in place with out issue. I did pull the bed to make my life a bit easier. Excellent product, even better customer service. Highly recommended!
