Description
We designed our TAC-230X/D-S SafeTCap® Frame repair kit to repair the Driver and Passenger Sides front frame on the 2nd Gen Tacoma models.
The TAC-230X/D will cap the frame beginning right after the control arm crossmember, or 8″ inches before the front cab mount, and will end approximately 13.5″ after the transmission cross member, right where the frame transitions from a boxed style frame to a C-channel style frame.. The TAC-230X/D is 6″ inches tall and once installed will need to be welded to the upper part of the original frame after the rust is removed and remaining metal is cleaned to bare metal. The TAC-230X/D also have drainage holes designed into them to allow any moisture or debris to drain out of the frame preventing a repeat problem.
The frame repair kit comes with installation instructions.

I have a 2005 Dbl-cab Tacoma. The frame rusted badly near the engine cross member. I qualified for Toyota’s recall but never received notice & was later told I was too late.
I ended up buying the first frame kit made available for this generation Tacoma and had it installed by Auto Collision Specialists (Dan) in Reisterstown Maryland. He did a fabulous job, very pleased and I recommend this kit to others in need. However, you have to be warned that after this repair, your frame will be super stiff and will feel like there’s no suspension when traveling at highway speeds and hitting a bump. I never realized the role that a frame flexing plays on the suspension of a vehicle. The good news in my case is that the frame gradually loosened up and began flexing nicely again. After 6 months of driving, it feels pretty good and after one year, it feels totally normal and my visual inspection shows no signs of frame trouble. So, I’m very pleased. Dennis at Saf-T-cap was great to work with and Dan the installer’s attention to detail was excellent.
The frame kit is very well made with good quality metal. Be sure to find an installer you trust. Saf-T-cap has recommended installers and if you’re near Baltimore, I couldn’t recommend my installer enough. Nick

This set is an absolute must if your tacoma frame is rusting out by the front cab mount. Even better that they make the mount bracket itself if yours is gone. The fitment is perfect and makes a very solid repair. Very pleased with the quality of autorust repair kits.
