This is autorust.com 3.0!
The new version of autorust.com was launched on July 15, 2005. It's fresh out of the oven and a few typos or coding errors might be lurking around. If you catch a typo, a broken link, a nonexistant image (except on product pages, where they are not yet finished), or anything else that might need fixing, please tell the webmaster.
CSS and Clean Code
The site was recently redesigned, simply, to be better. The old site used CSS for stylization but not layout. The frames are gone, replaced by organized divs. Before, an old browser would be completely unable to understand the site. Now, even without CSS support, the content is available to almost anyone. A few old-school HTML hacks are still employed, such as the plain .gif between the logos in the banner, but almost all of the presentation is now watertight CSS, with a few tables where there's actual tabular data.
print.css
A lot of websites have little links on their pages that say "Printer Friendly Version". These print-friendly versions generally eliminate navigation menus, banners, things like that. Because autorust.com uses css, you don't need to print a different page. When you click "print", the page you're viewing rearranges itself, eliminating the navigation sidebar and the autorust and safe-t-cap logos automatically. This is quicker than making you wait for a print-friendly page to load, and it makes impossible the mistake of accidentally printing the web version of the page. In short, the site is already printer-friendly!
Browser Wars
Our most recent stats say about 80% of our visitors use MSIE 6.0, and another 10% use Firefox 1.0. The remaining 10% is led by Netscape 7.1 and MSIE 5.5, with Firefox regularly gaining popularity. The site was designed for Firefox 1.0. Sometimes MSIE and Netscape show an error instead of the blank image when first loading the gallery pages, but they are replaced properly. If something doesn't seem right in your browser, please drop a line to the webmaster.
JavaScript
We use JavaScript for the image rollovers in the banner, for our hit counter, to tell you when the page was last updated, and to organize the image galleries. Disabled JavaScript will change the format of the galleries. The site is basically accessable with disabled JavaScript, we do, however, recomend browsing the 'net with JavaScript enabled unless your computer is more than five years old.
Dilbert?
We've got a bit of a Dilbert theme in the Safe-T-Cap office. Because all the product images were not ready when we launched the new site, we used images of Dilbert characters as placeholders. These images were used without permission temporarily. As images become ready, the frame kit pictures will replace the Dilbert pictures.
