Carlise was great

July 30th, 2008

As usual, it was great to get down to Carlisle for the All Chrysler @ Carlisle event. Doc and I left Thursday morning, and had an uneventful ride down, except for the straps on the trailer kept coming loose, and of course the pop tarts went fast. Hey, we are still growing boys of course ! We got into the fairgrounds about 6pm, and got the display set up for the weekend. Our new tent structure worked out great. The best part was we remembered to bring the generator and the giant fan! The cars there were amazing, never a lack of great stuff to look at. The crowd was also great, a little thin on Saturday, but thats to be expected with the cost of fuel these days. We managed to find a couple of nice little dirt tracks to check out, nothing like a face full of dirt to end a long day in the sun .

Our display booth was cool and relaxing for a changeFriday night found us at Big Diamond Raceway Dirt modifieds are a BLAST No lack of pretty girls at the show !! Saturday night found us at Linclon Speedway Racing never looked so easy ?? A beautiful sundown Sooner or later someone had to see what it would look like Step back, step very far back You can put a 440 in anything now-a-days Would you rather be stroked? Or feed me some fuel Stroking is nice, but wouldnt you rather be blown?Whatta ya mean gas is over $4.00 a gallon?

So, whats going on in the shop? Well, Herman has Marc D’s 66 Dart on his lift. The rust bugs had been real busy on that car. We fixed floors, trunk, frames, quarters, replaced fenders, trying to get doors, Its coming out AWESOME.

You can see we saved another MOPAR. Mike has been busy working on some small projects, he is good a quickies !! We are waiting for him to finish of some of the easy ones, then we have to gets Ralph’s Duster back in to finish that up. We needed to send that one out to get the frame pulle. Now we can finish off the rest of the car.

Tito was out for a couple of weeks, he got bonked in the noggin, sent him on a bit of a tizzy.

Jamie is Away on vacation right now. Out in PA for Pennsic wars. This looks like some crazy ass fun

Happy 4th of July

July 8th, 2008

Well that was fast. Last time I looked over here, it was time to go to Laconia for Bike week, all of a sudden its time to go to Carlisle for the Chrysler weekend. Rumor has it that its going to be hot again, oh yea, nothing like a humid day in the middle of a field in Central PA.

Its always a good show for us, see some old friends, make some new ones, and have some fun while we are there. Maybe Doc and I will find a little racetrack somewhere for Saturday night. Friday night should find us going over to Stone Mountain Drags, see how things are there.

The shop is busy, as always. Herman has a 66 Dart on his lift, its a daily driver from New York, and it has been patched up forever, and a day, so we have our hands full with that one. Mike gets a vacation this week, I have a sneeky feeling the fish are gonna be biting around here somewhere.  Tito never stops sandblasting, and Karry is busy with the kits.

I had a great time up in NH for Bike week, my little KLX-250 was a ball of fun in the mountains, found a few neat places, felt like I was a million miles away from everything, but was less then 20 miles from Weirs Beach

.It sure does stand out in a sea of hogs   I found some beautiful places in the mountains  A stop sign in the middle of nowhere  Part of the flood control area of Blackwater river  this guy looks HAPPY !!

Lets hope the camera keeps busy in Carlisle, and we get lots of pictures of CARS !!

Its vaCaTiOn time again !!

June 13th, 2008

That means Dave gets to go up to Laconia, its Bike Week.

That can only mean 2 things

Yup, Titties and beer.

I hope to have something to say when I get back on the 23rd.

Its finally spring !!

May 23rd, 2008

Actually its almost summertime, with it being memorial day weekend now. Wow, that means summer is right around the corner. I can not wait till its swim suit season !!

The shop is still cranking along, Mike has Ralph C’s 340 Duster on the lift. A very clean original 340, 4 speed Duster. It was his car in High School, after it got wrecked, he lost track of it. One night last winter he was poking around on Craigslist looking for something fun, and he saw this car listed. He went and looked at it, and realized it was the same car.  When it got to us, it was in very good condition considering the history. We sandblasted it and found some common problems, as well as a few previous repairs that needed to be corrected.

Mike starts to repir the floors    This is how the floor was repaired, with new sections, as well as good used ones.  Then we cut the old trunk out  The new trunk pan is in place now  There is always some hidden rust we did not expect to find.  The rear quarters are removed, its really not in bad shape for a 35 year old car from New England !

We try to keep Tito under control, but sometimes his inner cowboy rears its ugly side .Tito riding the wild open top Mopar !!

Doc and I  went down to Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey for the weekend, it was a good show until the skys opened up mid-day Sunday. We saw some old friends, and made some new ones, and saw some good racing in between.

The display looks good  A view from the other side  Old school goes new school.13.6, with a 1 bbl, straight 6 hang on Baby !!

Of course, Doc and I did manage to sneak out and find a little dirt track out in the boonies, that always makes the weekend a bit more fun  New Egypt Speedway, A neat 1/2 mile D shaped dirt track

Where did the blog go ???

May 9th, 2008

Is it still around here somewhere? Silly me, been spending way to much time working, not enough time writing on the blog. So where are we at?

The shop is still busy, however Pete got the lay-off notice a couple weeks ago. He just gets a bit to comfortable, and Jerry just couldn’t put up with him any longer. Mike has been busy on a lot of small projects. He did develop a new kit with Karri, Replacement front frame rails for 71-73 Mustangs. Now available on our web site. Mike also got his Chebby Nova out of winter storage. Looks like its running good now !!

getting the tires warmed up a bit  ahh, some hi-speed spin balancing for the rear tires

German Herman just finished if Charlie K’s 67 Belvedere Convertible, all new floors, trunk, lower quarters, and what not. Looks real good.

We have our 46 Ford in the shop, we put a saftey rollcage in it, sooner or later it will be up to Epping for some 1/4 mile fun.

Getting a new rollcage installed   Nice front rollcage section

Now that gas is at $3.50 and up, I bought a new motorcycle for myself. Its good for 65 mpg. And I can take it out to play in the dirt on the weekends.

.Glad I remembered that the bridge wasnt there anymore !!

Now if I can just figure out how to carry my coffee into work on it …..

Happy St. Patricks Day

March 19th, 2008

Another gray and dreary day, but, it sure didn’t seem like one in Newport,RI if you happen to be there around noon time Saturday, for the Newport Parade.

Jake and Elwood showed up, with a mystery guest included in the mix.

Of course the day started, and ended on a strange note.

A blowout on the highway in the pouring rain  What the  Look, its the Bluesmobile !!  Who is this?  Nothing to see here folks  Jake n Elwood  Its just a BluesmobileAnd now we finish up the day

It sure was a fun day in Newport, RI, home of the quahog !!

2 flat tires in 1 day was a bummer, showed us we need to be prpared for anything.

Next parade might be in 2 weeks in Providence, look for us.

Spring is springing

March 10th, 2008

Well, sorta. Its mid march and everyone is chomping at the bit to get the cars out. Race season is right around the corner. Looks like we will have the 46 Ford ready for some runs up at New England Dragway this summer. We are planning our show season, and Jerry is quaking in his boots at the high cost of fuel.

It looks like we will be going down to Englishtown for the Mopar Event in May. I am not sure about June yet. July will find us in Carlisle for the Mopar Event. August is always the Mopar Nats in Columbus. I would really like to do the Nats in Columbus, then take the week off and head to Detroit for the Dream Cruise the following weekend. We will see.

The shop has been busy. Mike finished Jims AAR Cuda. He has been working on Jim P’s 1965 Tempest Convertible, split the frame off of it, rebuilt it, as well as repair the bottom of the body.

Jim brought it in for a rebuild  We dropped the frame out from underneath it The frame had extensive rust damage, a common problem on the convertible chassis Mike had a lot of welding to do, he used 11 gauge steel for the main rails After the repairs are completed, he seals the whole chassis with our primer/sealer Then he applies several coats of glossy black finish Then we put the frame back underneat, and continue our floor and trunk repairs

This is a very nice original ONE Owner Pontiac. Jim is giving us whatever we need to do the job correctly. Thats what good customers do. Its a pleasure for us !!

Pete finished up the 67 Mustang coupe, and is getting ready to do some R&D work with Karri, there going to design a skid plate tank support for the Jeep Grand Wagoneers. A discontinued item, that lots of folks are looking for.

German has a good one in, a 1971 Challenger Convertible from a good customer in Westerly, RI. The car has had a tough life, now its going to be rebuilt and give him and his wife plenty of years of happy motoring.

This conveertible is a very desirable car      A strange place to find body filler, in a torque box. We cut away the rusty old quarters so we could repair the outer wheelwells.  We fit up the new rear quarters  Then we install the new trunk pans

We fit up the new deck lid  We had the subframe connectors welded in place before we began any metal work. Now we prime and seal the bottom  We made sure the complete car was primed and sealedThen we fit up the new front fenders and the Shaker Hood. Looks GOOD !!

What a nice car this one is turning into. Another customer who provided us with whatever the car needs.

Its winter …

February 13th, 2008

And there is no snow around here to play in. Thats no fun. 3 snowmobiles sitting here, waiting to go. I guess I have to start planning a trip up north soon. Maine has a ton of snow, my Aunt said come on up !!

My delay in posting was a combination of lame excuses, as well as the fact it was vacation time again. A trip to Florida in the middle of winter usually restores me, but it was cold down there, dam it. Still had time to golf, 5 out of 8 days. Silly game. Low score wins?? What is THAT all about??

The shop is still busy. Mike got Jims AAR Cuda finished. What a great job he did on that

dscn6002-rear-floor-under-seat.JPGCutting the rear quarters offGetting ready for the new 1 piece trunk floorTest fitting the new OEM style Quarter in placeNot much left here.

I cant seem to post anymore pictures here.

I will get more tomorrow

Happy Newest year !

January 4th, 2008

I hope 2008 is as good as you want it to be. Remember your the one that makes it what it is. Have fun !!

2007 was a good year at Auto Rust Tech. We got a lot of good projects done in here, as well as kept the locals cars safe and inspect-able so they can keep them longer. Lets hope 2008 is as good, or better.

We are planning our show schedule for the year. With the high fuel costd, it looks like we will only travel to the few big events, Carlisle and the Nats, maybe E-Town, maybe Syracuse. I dont think we will do many others.

In the shop here mike has Jims 70 AAR Cuda. He has the new 1 peice floor pan installed, the new front cowl section is in place, and he just fitted up the front frame rails

No cowl, fitting in the front floor and cowl side sectionsTest fitting the new floor, looking in the drivers side doorMike is welding in the cowl side panelsHere is fitting in the front cowl sectionThe new floor and shift tunnel look good, and the cowl seems to be fitting in real nicely

Test fitting the front frame railsThe inner fenders are in place, along with the radiator support panelThe front torque boxes are installed now

A few more days and the front of the car should be completed. Then we move to the rear where we will install a new trunk pan, as well as 2 new OEM style rear quarters. Jim is really stepping up here and doing this car right, and it deserves it, this is a numbers matching 340, 6 pack, 4 speed car.

German finished up the 56 Mercury he had on his lift, I think we will go easy on him for a couple days before we load his lift up with another project.

Tito has emerged from his sandblasting bay, and dont like it, just send him more blast and coats, and he will be happy.

Pete has been whipping out some short jobs, gotta keep the quicks one moving through the shop.Jerry has been busy with visitors from out of state. Nothing like family visits for the holidays!! He couldnt wait to get back to the shop !

I am waiting to get some snow around here, but its not looking so good. Maybe next week I will sneak away early and head north. Aunt Joan says there 3-1/2 feet of snow in central maine……

That silly holiday is finally over

December 28th, 2007

And not a moment to soon. I was just about sick of the bombardment of Christmas music. Not to mention the constant reminder to buy everyone a gift. Oh not just immediate family or freinds. Nope. According to the advertisements, I was to be shamed if I didn’t get the paperboy a gift, the post man a card, and the pool maintenance guy a card. Oh yea, I even heard, ” don’t forget your local trash man” he needs something also. GGGGG AAAAA KKKKKK !!!!!

Everyone here in the shop had a good Christmas, and it appears everyone is glad its over. Except maybe Chloe, she wants to wait at the chimney again, try to bite the fat old bastard trying to slide down it !! ( no thats not me, the other fat old bastard, the one with the white beard!!)

Its been quiet here in the shop, but not any lack of work.Herman is now working on Rays 56 Mercury Montclair. He provided us with a lot of parts, and that always makes our job easy. Herman is doing a GREAT job on this car, maybe because the car is almost as old as him !! :-)

Dropping it off Its been blasted and moved to the lift, time to get going. The trunk is cut out, as well as the rear quarters, now he is fitting in the trunk crossmember The tail panel is now in placeThe rockers were in bad shape also. The new front floor section is in place now

Speedy Pete is working on a lot of random stuff, a quick patch on a firebird, a small repair on a VW, just simple and quick.

Mike has a good one on his lift. He has the 1970 AAR Cuda on his lift. We got a bunch of parts for that from www.autobodyspecialt.com. They are the best. We have the new 1 piece floor pan, the new 1 piece trunk pan, full OEM quarters, outer wheel houses, shift tunnel, as well as everything else we could get. Jim bought 2 good used front frame rails, as well as a good used cowl.

This was the way it arrived. After we sandblasted it we realized how bad it really was. Some of the new parts. Very nice quality products. We started cutting it up Here we have the cowl and floor cut out. Looking out at the missing cowl and floor pan. Here our Mike fits the new floor pan in place.

Stay tuned, this is a good one.
